28.11.2024 – Vive l’architecture

The excursion to the south of France by the Architecture Department (headed by Prof. Zvonko Turkali) of the Institute for Design and Building Theory at Leibniz University Hannover took place from November 7th to 13th, 2024.

The excursion was the preliminary highlight of the bachelor’s thesis and the Lang project in the master’s program and led to the province of Languedoc, including Arles, Nîmes and Montpellier.

Highlights of the trip were landmarks such as the amphitheaters and the Pont du Gard aqueduct in Arles and Nîmes. Numerous contemporary buildings were also on the program, such as the Nemausus, a social housing project by Jean Nouvel from 1987, the “Carré d’art” media library by Norman Forster and “Antigone”, a major project designed by Riccardo Bofill from 1979 to 1999 with postmodern elements in the middle of Montpellier. Another highlight of the trip was the guided tour lasting several hours, in which Prof. Martin Andersch presented the urban development and architectural features of Montpellier.

The excursions take place in close connection with the design topics offered by the institute. This semester, the bachelor’s thesis involves designing a research and event center in the old town of Arles, and the Lang project involves designing a meeting center in Montpellier.

In addition to Prof. Zvonko Turkali, the project is led by the scientific staff Dr. Jens Brozeit, Arlette Feltz-Süßenbach, Leonie Glaser and Fabian Reinsch supervised.
