Due to internal restructuring measures, Volksbank Gütersloh needed a new head office to bundle its business activities. Turkali Architekten emerged as the winner of the competition held in 2001. The completed building represents the first building block on a site in the center of the city. It consists of two structures of different heights, whose alignment and mass distribution follow the ordering principles of the neighboring buildings. The five-storey part of the building, prominently positioned at the crossroads, accommodates all office uses. A semi-public customer hall is located on the first floor, designed as a building-high courtyard with stone flooring and clad with oak panels and blue-colored plaster.
The two-storey section of the building facing the neighboring residential development accommodates the communal areas: an event room with a capacity of 150 people on the first floor and a staff lounge area on the upper floor.
The building figure defines a publicly accessible courtyard inside the complex. Positioned directly next to the event space, it is a welcome addition for any outdoor activities.
The consistent treatment of the exterior façades with Trosselfels limestone strengthens the legibility of the building volume and its presence in the urban space.
