A few minutes from the city center and located directly on the Rhine, a modern, urban district with up to 4,000 jobs and around 1,400 owner-occupied and rental apartments or individual townhouses is being built around the eight-hectare harbor basin.
The large form accommodates a hotel as well as residential and commercial uses. The consistent materiality of the clinker masonry facades is reminiscent of the original industrial use of the port and creates recognizable references to the shape of the historic storage buildings.
The hotel and residential building together form a closed block development with an appropriate design language. The elevation on the southern corner of the building strengthens the long-distance effect of the house in terms of urban development and at the same time marks the transition to the harbor district.
The building complex includes four “houses” with their own staircases and separate entrances. In the residential building with 82 residential units, the visual connections to the water are highlighted through large loggias and window openings.
Specially designed bezels around the windows and entrances cut deep into the building volume characterize the independence and plasticity of the building and strengthen the maritime atmosphere of the district. The floor plans of the 1 to 4 room apartments are characterized by individual sizes between 30 and 117 square meters and room geometries. The green inner courtyard offers a high quality of outdoor living – it is barrier-free accessible from the ground floor stairwell areas.
The hotel has a total of 216 guest rooms, evenly distributed over four upper floors.
