The exhibition “Models for the City” features eleven large-format models of selected works by the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, built by students at Leibniz University Hannover. They provide unique access to the work of Rafael Moneo, one of Spain’s most renowned architects. The three-dimensional models reveal the principles of Moneo’s architectural ideas, his virtuosity in handling form and shape, volume, and space. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Instituto Cervantes Frankfurt and the Institute for Design and Building Theory of Prof. Zvonko Turkali at Leibniz University Hannover.
Zvonko Turkali, an architect in Frankfurt and university professor at the Institute for Design and Building Theory at Leibniz University Hannover, dedicated a seminar to Rafael Moneo, in which architecture students explored the life and work of the great Spanish architect. In addition to a written presentation and a lecture, the three-dimensional analysis of individual works played a significant role. By constructing large-scale models, the building planning aspects as well as the spatial peculiarities and characteristics of Moneo’s architecture are illustrated in an exemplary manner, which would have escaped the editor in a purely theoretical or two-dimensional analysis.
