03.09.2025 – Solitaires that convince

The entries for the competition for the renovation and new construction of the student residence hall at Ginnheimer Landstraße 40-42 in Frankfurt were recently exhibited at the Frankfurt City Planning Office. Zvonko Turkali Architekten won third prize in the competition.

From the jury’s assessment: “The four planned stand-alone buildings blend seamlessly into the surroundings in terms of urban planning and contribute to the development of a previously almost completely paved parking lot into an attractive green space. With their different levels of height, the four stand-alone buildings respond well to the existing environment. The existing high-rise buildings are respected, and important visual connections are kept clear from the new development. As the tallest new building, the seven-story stand-alone building on Ginnheimer Landstraße corresponds with the existing student residence hall across the street. It thus creates a link between old and new, between the city and the adjacent landscape. This creates a unifying and compelling element between the two residence hall locations.”

And: “Overall, the work makes a convincing contribution (…) and, particularly due to its compact size, uses the land resource sparingly. A large amount of new, affordable, high-quality housing can be created in a small area.”

The jury included freelance architects, representatives from the City of Frankfurt am Main, the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas, and Goethe University Frankfurt.
