With the planning of the new building, a tailor-made solution was created for the school and the local situation. The built-up area is reduced by stacking the two playing fields. A large part of the schoolyard can thus continue to be used for open space activities and the beautiful old chestnut tree in the middle of the yard can be preserved.
The new gym is an urban building. Its scale, shape and materiality make reference to the neighboring buildings.
The building heads to the north and south contain the necessary ancillary rooms, such as changing rooms, sanitary facilities and play equipment storage.
The entrance area is dominated by the approximately eight-metre-high foyer. It accommodates the access staircase and defines the entrance to the playing field on the first floor.
Each sports field measures 15 x 27 meters. The lower hall is seven meters high and is at ground level to the schoolyard, the height of the upper hall is five and a half meters. Both halls are naturally lit, the hall on the first floor via strip lighting along the west and east sides of the building, the hall on the upper floor via shed roofs sloping towards the north.
