The spacious property with old trees is located in one of the preferred residential areas in Frankfurt’s Niederrad district. A double bungalow was built there in the 1960s. The immediate surroundings are characterized by middle-class houses from the turn of the century and simple, modest modern architecture.

The extension contains the private rooms of the family of four.

Four cavities are cut into the volume of the 30 meter long and eight meter wide structure: two terraces, a winter garden and a two-story air space – as a connection to the ground floor. The terraces on the two front sides of the block form part of the cubature as a contained outdoor space. These frames direct the view into the garden, the trees and the silhouette of the city.
