Gymnasium Heinrich-von-Gagern High School
The new building provides a customized solution to the school and the given local situation. The covered area is reduced by the stacking of two sports courts. A large part of the schoolyard can still be used for recess and the old chestnut tree in the middle of the yard can be kept.
The new gymnasium is an urban house. Formative in scale and materiality, it adapts to the neighboring buildings. The service rooms such as dressing rooms, lavatories and storage rooms are located on either the North or the Southside.
The entrance is characterized by a foyer of eight-meter height. It includes the staircase and defines the entry to the court on the ground floor.
Each court has a size of 15 x 27 meter. The lower sports hall has a height of seven meter and is at ground level. The upper court has a height of 5.5 meter. Both sports halls are naturally exposed, on the ground level by light bands along the East and Westside, on the upper level by shed roofs inclined towards the north.
