Special booklet of the Climate Office Linz

"Steering and Accelerating Climate Measures in Linz" is the title of a special booklet published by the Climate Office Linz in October 2021. According to the office of the city government, the booklet is an important fundamental document for the further climate work of the city of Linz, providing the required overview and interim evaluation on its way of becoming a climate city.

"Linz has become the cleanest industrial city, a social city of peace and finally the European Capital of Culture. (...) Through an exemplary catalog of measures for climate protection and adaptations to climate change, Linz is preparing to become a climate-neutral city since 2020. Considering these defined top measures, Linz is set to become the climate capital of Europe in 2025," writes Klaus Luger, mayor of the city of Linz, in the foreword to the publication.

Linz and its industry have often proven in the past that climate protection and sustainable industrial jobs are not contradictory, says Luger. "With the Climate Unit, we have paved the way for the implementation of our measures. With the local expertise, we know how to implement the right and concrete strategies step by step," Luger continued.

The chapter "Practical Insights" is dedicated to the members of the Climate Council and provides exciting insights into their work. One of them is Prof. Zvonko Turkali, who has been the chairman of the advisory board since it was founded in 2020. Prof. Turkali sees the main task as continuing to be the assessment of climate fund projects and the support of city-internal working groups, for example in greening or mobility issues.

"Climate protection is a task for the society as a whole, with social, cultural and design dimensions. Especially in cities like Linz, which display a distinctive cityscape that has evolved over centuries, adapting urban development to the demands of climate change is particularly complex. This is where the Advisory Council can make its contribution!" says Prof. Turkali.
