Construction of the Jewish Academy to begin in early September 2021

The Central Council of Jews in Germany will herald the start of construction of the Jewish Academy in Frankfurt am Main with a groundbreaking ceremony on September 2, 2021. Alongside Dr. Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer and Hesse's Prime Minister Volker Bouffier are expected to attend the event.

The academy, which is being realized by Turkali Architekten at the southern tip of the newly planned culture campus in Frankfurt, is the first supra-regional Jewish institution of its kind to be built after the Shoah. The design is characterized by an ensemble of an old and a new building, which are connected by a glazed, single-story structure.

The Jewish Academy follows the tradition of the Jewish Teaching House founded in the 1920s and led in Frankfurt by Franz Rosenzweig. Important public discourses are to be taken up in the academy and are to be enriched by the Jewish perspective. In this way, the Jewish Academy wants to contribute to an increased acceptance of religious and cultural plurality in Germany.
