Construction sign of the Jewish Academy officially unveiled

Progress is being made in the construction project Jewish Academy Frankfurt, which is being realized by Turkali Architekten at the southern tip of the newly planned cultural campus in Frankfurt. On Monday, June 28th, 2021, the official 4.7 meter high and 5 meter wide construction sign was unveiled.

Uwe Becker, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt and Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight against Anti-Semitism, Mark Dainow, Vice President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and Harry Schnabel, Member of the Presidium of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and Member of the Board of the Jewish Community Frankfurt, as well as Prof. Doron Kiesel, academic director of the education department at the Central Council of Jews in Germany and Sabena Donath, Head of the education department at the Central Council of Jews in Germany, attended the ceremony.

The building permit for the construction of the first Jewish Academy in Germany has already been granted at the end of 2019. With its award-winning design, Turkali Architekten had prevailed against prominent competition. The design is characterized by an ensemble of an old and a new building being connected by a glazed, single-story structure.

The new building accommodates an event hall for approximately 200 people, a dining hall, foyer rooms of various sizes and a massive spiral staircase leading to a spacious roof terrace with a fabulous view over the Frankfurt skyline, while the neoclassical old building houses a café, meeting rooms and administrative offices.

The project is financed by the Central Council of Jews in Germany, the Federal Republic of Germany, the State of Hesse and the City of Frankfurt. It is currently in the execution planning phase. The construction is expected to begin in October 2021.
