Zollhafen Mainz Living and Hotel
A few minutes from the city center and located directly on the Rhine, a modern, urban city quarter is being built around the eight-hectare harbor basin with up to 4,000 working places and around 1,400 condominiums, rental apartments and individual townhouses.
The grand form accommodates a hotel as well as residential and commercial uses. The consistent materiality of the facades in clinker brickwork is reminiscent of the original industrial use of the harbor and establishes recognizable references to the design of the historic warehouse buildings.
Together, the hotel and the residential building form a closed block development in an adequate architectural language. The elevation at the southern corner of the building intensifies the long-distance effect of the building in terms of urban development and also marks the transition to the harbor district.
The building complex includes four "houses" with their own staircases and separate entrances. In the residential building with 82 units, the visual references to the water are accentuated by large loggias and window openings. Particularly elaborate window frames and entrances cut into the volume of the building characterize the singularity as well as the plasticity of the building and strengthen the maritime atmosphere of the neighborhood.
The floor plans of the 1- to 4-room apartments are characterized by individual sizes between 30 and 117 square meters and room geometries. The landscaped courtyard offers a high quality of outdoor living - it can be assessed barrier-free from the ground-floor stairwell areas.
The hotel has a total of 216 guest rooms, which are evenly distributed over four upper-floor levels.
