Groundbreaking for the Extension and Renovation of the Edith Stein Vocational School in Paderborn

This morning, after the address by principal Dr. Magdalena Marx as well as the speeches by dean Joachim Göbel and architect Prof. Zvonko Turkali, the groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of the Edith Stein Vocational School in Paderborn was carried out.

The planning of the project originates in a realization competition won by Turkali Architekten in the year 2011. It includes multiple refurbishment measures of the existing school building as well as the construction of three additional new buildings, which are all connected by an internal school street. The three-story extension accommodates the urgently required extra classrooms. The canteen of approximately 400 square meters is located on the west end of the premises and opens up towards the green with a terrace in front. The chapel is located on the east end of the property and features a 12-meter high tower that serves as a long-distance imprint of the catholic institution.

The new buildings’ whitewashed brick and ferroconcrete walls clearly adapt to the design of the existing building. Yet the different construction phases of the beautiful school premises prove a sense of individuality, which will remain visible in the future.

Diocese master builder Emanuela Baroness von Branca takes on the project management representing the client. The site management is being conducted by Just Architects from Paderborn. The completion of the project is scheduled for the end of 2016.
